In patinated bronze and gilded bronze, very finely chiseled, this beautiful pair of candelabra takes up a theme dear to the Empire period: the allegory of Victory.
Indeed, Napoleon I made great use of symbols to stage his regime. Artists and artisans enjoyed playing with these allegorical representations.
Here, a winged Victory (or Fame), in patinated bronze, arms and hands raised above the head, hosts a cone formed by chiseled palmettes. From the latter emerge a quiver ending in a flame and two arms of light, each offset by a generous winding scroll, flanked by a small rose window. The sockets reveal a decoration of finely guilloché crosses, while the top of the quiver is adorned with very finely chiseled water leaves.
This female figure whose details of the hands, feet, hair, wings, drapery are of perfect mastery, rests on a columned pedestal with a Doric capital, delicately decorated with crosses and flowers. The whole rests on a square base.
Parisian work from the Empire period.
Original chasing and gilding (matte and burnished) of very high quality.
