An elegant object from the Restoration period (circa 1820), featuring rich ornamentation in chased and gilded bronze. The upper part consists of a molded spout with a removable gadrooned bowl adorned with palmettes, and a crown-shaped basin teeming with vine leaves, fruit, and flowers. The shaft, reminiscent of an antique column with a baluster base decorated with acanthus leaves, rests on a molded and striated ogee foot and ends in a fluted column with a capital. The whole is supported by tripod legs with lion's hocks and claws, covered with acanthus leaves and palmettes, resting on a terrace with concave sides and flat corners.
The original two-tone mercury gilding (matte and glossy) is remarkably preserved, testifying to its age with slight signs of use. The chiseling is of exceptional quality, fine and very detailed. Dimensions: Height 24 cm, Base 11 cm x 11 cm.
Provenance: Private collection of a collector in Fontainebleau. (*) Identical provenance to other items for sale on this site.
