Pair of Louis XV Rocaille-style chased and gilded bronze candlesticks based on models by Meissonnier (1695-1750), the King's goldsmith.

Architecture of the Bougeoir: A superb asymmetrical Rocaille ensemble, the Bougeoir is composed of a very handsome tripartite round base with projecting leaves, thick acanthus leaf scrolls and tassels, a stepped structure and hollow and flat moldings, the top of the base composed of a projecting ring. From this base rises a beautiful central shaft with a wide tripartite bulge at the top, decorated with stylized acanthus leaves and numerous moldings with ascending and descending elements, from which emerges a beautiful twisted, swirling spigot decorated with acanthus leaves. The candlestick is engaged in a movement like a permanent one and ends at the top with a removable original spool with hollow basin and acanthus outline.

The bronze is of the highest quality, bold, plush and thick, precisely executed, with an assertive, elegant base and fine, salient, lively chasing, a fine example of 19th-century craftsmanship. The gilding is of fine quality, with a two-tone matt and glossy finish and guilloché, indicating the level of craftsmanship.
