Superb Pair of Gilded and Chased Bronze Candelabras with Transfomations forming Candelabras and Candlesticks in the Louis XVI Style 19th Century Napoleon III

    Dimensions
Candelabra position Height: 40 cm Width 23 cm Depth 23 cm
Candlestick position Height 25 cm Base diameter 13 cm

Candelabra Architecture: a magnificent piece of architecture. Its special feature: the candelabra can be transformed into a candleholder. The lower part is composed of a candlestick with a stepped, molded round base decorated with wide canals and a surrounding laurel wreath.
The baluster-shaped tapered foot is fluted with embedded quiver arrows, pearls and ovals, and has a round spigot on a fluted pedestal with rich molding and a removable basin spout where the upper part rests to form a candelabra.
The upper part is composed of four volute-shaped branches and Greek-style consoles richly molded and decorated with asparagus, stylized acanthus leaves and laurel leaves.
The branches end in four fluted Antique Vase lights, with beautiful basins decorated with palmettes and beaded bobéches. In the center, an antique-style fire pot with falling laurel sprays and ribbon bows rests on a truncated fluted column, with a removable fire-decorated Teteignoir at the top.

Condition report: Complete, all original, beautiful antique gilding with matte and glossy finish, some missing patina with traces of use and age and some wear (antique item). Provenance Parisian Collection.

Very fine quality bronze, thick, bold and superbly chiseled. Elegance prevails and a rich, well-balanced decoration sublimates the meticulous architecture.

This model seems to have been largely inspired by the studies of Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734-1791), an illustrious Parisian architect, sculptor and ornamentalist, who disseminated his engraved collections, notably "La nouvelle iconologie" in 1788. His numerous drawings, with references drawn from Antiquity, were models for a whole generation of sculptors, decorators and bronzeworkers.
