An elegant pair of gilt bronze candelabra from the Napoleon III period, richly decorated in the Rococo style inspired by the Louis XV ornamental repertoire.

Resting on openwork bases composed of scrolling foliage, vine tendrils, and bunches of grapes, these candelabra display a particularly cohesive design centered on the theme of the vine and Bacchic festivities. The gracefully curved feet are adorned with acanthus leaves, vine tendrils, and finely chiseled grape clusters that extend into the candle arms.

Each candelabra features a childlike figure in the round. One depicts a young boy wearing a vine wreath and holding a syrinx, the famous panpipe. The other shows a young girl carrying a bunch of grapes. Both figures belong to the traditional world of Bacchus, the god of wine, abundance, and the pleasures of nature.

The stems, crafted with asymmetrical curves, support four lights: three scalloped arms surrounding a central socket.

The ensemble is embellished with garlands of flowers, vine leaves, and hanging grape clusters, the fine chasing of which testifies to the care taken in their execution.

The candelabra retain their two original removable snuffers, an accessory now rarely preserved. Made of gilt bronze and surmounted by a bird in the round perched on a bouquet of flowers, they contribute fully to the refinement of the ensemble while recalling its primary function.

This pair is distinguished by the quality of its casting, the fineness of its chasing, and the beautiful preservation of its original gilding. The faces of the figures, the treatment of the drapery, the birds' plumage, the veins of the leaves, and the modeling of the grape clusters reveal particularly meticulous craftsmanship.

Original assembly preserved. The central sockets were originally drilled to allow for electrification, which has since been removed. This earlier modification only affected the top lights; the side arms remained unchanged.
