Here is a rare short floor lamp designed by Hans Agne Jakobsson and manufactured by his company in Design/One, Sweden, in the 1950s. The G-81 features a brass base and a vertical stem, elegantly adorned with a shade composed of thirteen brass rings, providing a warm and evenly distributed light. It is finished with a closed cap and a decorative loop for added charm.
Hans-Agne Agnes (1919-2009)
Born on the island of Gotland, Sweden, Hans-Agne Jakobsson is one of the most important Swedish designers of the 20th century.
He studied architecture in Gothenburg and completed a carpentry apprenticeship. He first worked as an industrial designer at General Motors, then as an assistant to Carl Malmsten.
In 1950, he designed his first pendant lights: a pine slatted pendant to soften direct light on a shop window. This model was a great success. Jakobsson began producing this model and, in 1951, founded his own company: Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB.
Over more than 50 years in business, he created over 2,000 lighting designs using wood, copper, brass, fringed fabrics, and glass.
His creations are timeless pieces highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
