PERCUSSION RIFLE, MIQUELET LOCK - SEVILLE
Spain, 19th century
Steel, wood, horn, silver, bone.
L.T.: 137 – Barrel length: 95cm - Muzzle diameter: 16.5mm
Barrel with sides on the first half, then round; the joint is decorated with an engraved, foliate, and gilded ring. The barrel and breech are engraved en suite, with a gold damascene decoration, two stamped hallmarks, and three fleurs-de-lis on the three upper sides. Silver front sight on a star.
Flat-body lock, with a miquelet, engraved with foliage and grapes and marked ASPE ANO DE 1845 SEVILLE; the hammer is engraved en suite with two doves. Steel counterplate engraved with two doves flanked by quivers with arrows, foliage, and a bird in the corner.
Trigger guard engraved with the two doves and a fox; bears the SPE marking.
Engraved buttplate.
Walnut frame, short-barreled, with moldings and checkering.
Silver capucine engraved with a potted bouquet flanked by birds.
Silver grenadière with bourrelets. The ramrod is made of whalebone, tipped with bone and silver.
Fairly good condition. Soft lockplate, small loss to the spring. A silver fitting is missing from the frame.
