White polished steel frame marked X. 6-shot cylinder. Single and double action. Control marks.
Trigger guard marked R1 for reformed. Armament door marked P.
Squared wooden stock plates. Bélière ring on piton.
All parts numbered and stamped.

Article 110 of the official military journal of 1884:
"Each corps is issued, per company, squadron or battery, four firearms of the models in service, to train young soldiers in disassembly and reassembly.
These weapons are part of a special series for each model (the X series); they must never be used for target shooting."
Excerpt from the regulations:
"Corps receive a certain number of firearms (rifles, carbines, muskets or revolvers) for training purposes. These are known as theory weapons, and are usually made from discarded parts. These weapons, which all have the letter X as their serial number, bear neither the manufacture's stamp, nor the director's or controller's hallmarks."
