Iron court sword with multiple guards
French work from the late 17th - early 18th century
This type of guard was used on rapiers until the early 18th century.
Openwork guard, engraved branches, and the hilt is encircled by an iron chain around its entire surface.
The blade is thicker at the base, as was typical of 17th-century rapiers.
The blade is engraved with floral motifs.
The last third of the blade has been restored; it was broken and re-welded with a reinforcement. This restoration likely dates from the 19th century.
