JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868)
Samurai half-mask known as a "Mempo" made of wrought iron decorated with lines reproducing wrinkles. It features a pronounced chin, a movable nose, a horsehair mustache (some missing), pierced nostrils, and a sweat hole under the chin.
The interior is lacquered in red (some significant missing parts).
This mempo must have been lacquered, as fine traces of lacquer remain.
Four-tiered gorget made of black lacquered iron and blue silk (some significant missing parts).

Dimensions: 22 x 19 x 11 cm.
