A Look at the Artwork ®

This mixed media work on paper reveals a rigorously constructed composition, a direct legacy of Albert Bitran's architectural training.

The work is organized around a dense central core from which oblique and fragmented forms unfold, evoking an almost architectural structure.
The kraft paper used in the collage provides a fibrous and organic texture that interacts with the layers of acrylic.
Through the use of resist (1) and resist (2), Bitran allows the material of the support to show through, creating depth and variations in surface without overloading the surface.

The dominant diagonals lend the whole a strong dynamism, while the palette of ochres and blacks structures the space with balance. The lighter areas bring breath and light within the dark masses.

This work will be included in the catalogue raisonné currently being prepared by Hélène de Panafieu-Bitran, Mariane Spang-Hanssen-Bitran, and Clotilde Scordia.

    Public Collections
Albert Bitran's artistic career enjoys established institutional recognition. His work is featured in several national and international public collections, confirming his place among the leading figures of art from the second half of the 20th century.

    (1) Reserve: an area intentionally left unpainted or lightly painted in order to preserve the light or color of the support.

    (2) Removing paint: a technique consisting of leaving certain parts of the support exposed to create contrasts, breathing spaces, or textural effects.
