A Look at the Artwork ®

Painted in 1967, this canvas from the Bloody Paintings series is based on a structured and radically refined vertical composition.
The image is divided into three main areas: two dark masses on either side, and a central band that is luminous and warm. The sides, worked in nuanced blacks, tend towards violet and brown.
In the center, a vertical orange-red form immediately captures the eye. Its irregular, vibrant, and tightly packed edges give it an organic, almost corporeal character. This flow appears both contained and tense, as if compressed by the dark masses that frame it. A thin white border detaches this form from the background and reinforces the idea of fracture or passage, evoking an unstable threshold between two states.
