OIL ON CANVAS 146X89cm. Dated 60. Italian format for this superb Mandeville oil with a refined and very elegant palette. Its dimensions allow it to be easily staged. A real presence! 1960 is the year of his exhibition Galerie BELLECHASSE PARIS
Bernard Mandeville was the subject of numerous exhibitions during his lifetime, notably in 1982 at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, and worked with numerous writers and poets with a view to interdisciplinarity.
In 1935, a painting displayed in a window at his grandparents' home caught the attention of Joseph Delattre, a painter from the Rouen school; very early on, there will be, in the style of this one, views of the Seine and its port. In 1951, one of these paintings was reduced to its essential lines, then became a sort of bouquet. Abstraction* has begun its journey. From the examination of rocks and their reality, which lasts two decades, 1960 and 1970, he expresses life as Bachelard or Teilhard, from Auvergne like him, speak of it. In doing so, he achieves this abstraction and the imagination is here the work of a prophet saying what others do not yet see. Almost imperceptibly, his painting slides through a stage of torn collages towards a perfect geometric abstraction which he reached in 1981. Ionism of these pure, balanced, beige, brown and black forms, standing like the necessary pieces of architecture useless.
