- Attilio Guffanti, descendant of an old Lombard family, was born on March 19, 1875 in Rovescale, in the province of Pavia, and studied in Milan with Luigi Conconi and in Pavia with Pietro Michis (director of the Pavia school of painting from 1880 to 1900). He became friends with Romeo Borgogni, with whom he remained in contact throughout his life. He then enrolled in the Academy of Venice, where he obtained his diploma in painting. During his stay in Venice he met Luigi Nono and Angelo d'Oca Bianca, and frequented the studio of Ettore Tito. After 1900 he went to the Academy of Rome.
- After his family moved to Genoa, he moved to the French Riviera, and settled permanently in Nice, where he lived with his wife Victorine, and his two children Maurice and Lilette.
- He lived there with his wife Victorine, and his two children Maurice and Lilette. He was in close contact with the numerous colony of exiled Russian nobles who greatly appreciated his portraits. This earned him the nickname "Painter of the Grand Duchess".
- Contemporary critics have highlighted in his paintings the surety of the line, the freshness and the naturalness of the colors, celebrating "the portraitist of excellence, an interpreter who starts from the physical resemblance to reach the spiritual and psychological reality of his models".
- The countryside and mountains of the Alpes Maritimes and the French Riviera also offer him many delightful landscape subjects. His works were regularly exhibited in Nice and in Italy, for example:
- Gallery of artistic woods, 1928, Nice - Gallerie Valle, 1929 Genoa - Cenacolo gallery San Giorgio 1931 Genoa - Gallerie Gerie, 1930, Milan, Ritratto del figlio - Town Hall of Rovescale, March 19, 1992, Retrospective of the work
