AUGUSTE CHABAUD (1881-1955)
Auguste Chabaud was born in Nîmes in 1882.
At the age of 15, he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Avignon, where his teacher was Pierre Grivolas, who had already trained René Seyssaud.
In Chabaud’s work, the sum of the hues merges into a blue magma, an ardent creative paste veined in an intense black and sharp like shadow in the most sparkling hours of the day. White, used sparingly pure or more often grayed out, completes the trilogy of dominant tones that exalt Provençal nature.
