Oil on wood panel
19.5 x 24.5 cm (27 x 32 cm with frame)
Beautiful antique gilded wood frame
Beautiful small landscape painted on wood panel, probably by the 18th-century Antwerp School. The subject, composition and very light, clear workmanship are reminiscent of the art of Hendrick Josef Antonissen.
Hendrik Jozef Antonissen (1737 - 1794) was a painter and engraver from the Southern Netherlands, specializing in landscapes and herd scenes. A pupil of Antwerp painter Balthasar Beschey, his many pupils included Henri Blomaerts, Jan Baptist Ceurvorst, Simon Denis, Hendrik Frans de Cort, Jacob Trachez and Ignatius van den Berghe, and animal painter Balthasar Paul Ommeganck.
