    Oil on canvas representing a view of a mountain lake, on the edge of which are fishermen in boats and a character with his dog. In the background, view of a village and a castle in front of a mountain.

    Born in November 1805 in Thoissey in Ain and died on November 12, 1856, Nicolas-Victor Fonville did his apprenticeship at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon in 1820 then traveled to Rome in 1830 where he stayed for a year.

    Upon his return, he opened a workshop in Lyon. He exhibited in Lyon in 1821, then in Paris in 1833. He mainly dealt with the landscapes of Italy, Ain, Isère and Lyonnais.
