Mona JORDAN (1908-1995) is a major artist, yet unknown on the art market today, particularly in France. Her career took place in post-war Tokyo, first in Naples, then in Florida. She also worked in the artistic community of Ajjic, Mexico.
After classical training at the Corcoran School of Art (Washington, DC), her style evolved towards figurative abstraction and cubist chiaroscuro.
Her work has been exhibited in Paris at the Centre Pompidou (American Women Artists in Paris exhibition, 1980) - in New York (at two National Academy of Design biennials (1984 and 1986) at the American Watercolor Society - at the Salamagundi Club - at the American Pastel Society) - in Palm Beach (at the Four Arts Society), in Naples (at Major Florida Artists), etc.
While living in Naples, she exhibited at the 1953 American Painting Exhibition in Bodighera, alongside Robert Motherwell, Man Ray, Jackson Pollack, Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still... Jean Cocteau wrote an introduction to the catalog and attended the opening with Peggy Guggenheim.
The National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, among others, hold works by Mona Jordan.
