A pillar of the Ajaccio school, François Corbellini traveled the Corsican landscapes all his life to capture their subtleties and ever-changing nuances. Trained in Paris by Jean-Léon Gérome and Gustave Moreau, the painter left the capital to join the island of beauty, which he would never leave again. His watercolors and oils on canvas were so appreciated that they helped promote the island to the mainland. François Corbellini, very attached to his village of Piana, north of Ajaccio, died there in 1943.
