Gorgeous large achievement by the painter representing an elegantly dressed young woman in the middle of a flower garden, holding a bouquet in her hands. Elegance is not only found in the way in which Charles LEVIER dresses his figures and more particularly the women or in the finesse of the details and the balance of colors which animate his paintings, but also in his subtly thought-out settings where each item or group of items occupies a very specific place so that the viewer has the impression that they respond pictorially to each other, which is, ultimately, much more than an impression...Beautiful framing.

CONDITION
Painting : seems to be in overall perfect condition.
Frame : Imposing wooden frame, stucco and burl or burl of walnut or maybe poplar, showing some age wear marks and small shocks as well as a small natural flaw in the wood, on the right (burl/burl of walnut/poplar) otherwise in good overall condition. The interior frieze/moulding has been restored in 2 places (small segments - top left and bottom right).

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Charles LEVIER is a French painter born on January 26, 1920 in Corsica to a French father and an American mother. At seventeen, he entered the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. The war interrupted his studies and he went to North Africa to enlist. When American troops arrived, his knowledge of English allowed him to become a liaison officer between the French army and the American OSS.
After the conflict, Charles LEVIER decided not to resume his studies and set up his workshop in the USA, while maintaining close links with France. His first personal exhibition took place in Lyon, in the Constantine gallery, two years later. Charles LEVIER then experienced notable success on the American west coast, with an exhibition in Los Angeles in 1950. In 1955, his reputation was well established and he exhibited solo in Paris and New York in two prestigious galleries: the “Colosseum Gallery” and the “Lilienfeld Gallery”. Charles LEVIER's notoriety is exploding in the USA where many private collectors are competing for his paintings. He is received on television in numerous talk shows.
The painting of Charles LEVIER is very representative of the figurative movement of the “Trente Glorieuses”. A colorist full of vitality without being aggressive, LEVIER is inspired by cubist visual concepts while respecting readability and resemblance to the model. According to the show "Tell the truth" in which he participated in 1953, he also seems to paint under other identities or pseudonyms (Jacou, Monfort, Roberval) works in a style different from the one who painted him. made famous. His art, all in delicacy and optimism, is never committed and gives itself the mission of representing a world full of beauty and lightness. For these reasons, he is much more famous in the USA than in France where he suffered from the hostility of official criticism advocating abstraction as well as from his success with American elites.
The works of Charles LEVIER are present in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris, the Seattle Museum, the Atlanta Museum, etc...
Among his private collectors were Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin as well as Baron Edmond de Rothschild or Prince and Princess Poniatoski and many other personalities.
He died on September 3, 2003 in Westhampton Beach, NY, USA.
