A beautiful painting, created using mixed media (oil, gouache, watercolor), depicting the Austrian town of Seefeld in 1937. The painting shows the village, with a sign pointing to a café, as well as people on skis. In the distance, the mountains tower over the village.
A rare snowy landscape painting by Emmy Leuze-Hirschfeld, an artist of Austrian origin who became a naturalized French citizen.
The frame is slightly worn.
Emmy Leuze-Hirschfeld, born Émilie Leuze on December 4, 1884, in Vienna (Austria), was an Austrian painter who became a naturalized French citizen in 1921. She studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts before settling in Concarneau in 1905. There, in 1906, she met and married the Russian painter Emil-Benediktoff Hirschfeld, with whom she lived until his death in 1922.
Her work is characterized by depictions of Breton women, peasants, Breton landscapes, and scenes of daily life in Concarneau. After her husband’s death, she traveled to Spain and North Africa, which also influenced her art. She exhibited regularly, notably at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris (where she received an honorable mention in 1919), at the Union Artistique de Concarneau et de Quimper, as well as at the Saluden Gallery in Brest and the Mignon-Massart Gallery in Nantes.
