An academic painter, Félix was the son of Etienne Berne-Bellecour, a painter of military subjects. A good, classical artist who painted genre scenes and portraits.
The early 20th-century Tout Paris directory lists a Paul Couradin, a court-appointed lawyer, who married a certain Léontine Oury in 1893, the date of our painting. Léontine Oury was nineteen at the time. Like her parents, she came from the Loir-et-Cher region. The couple remained attached to the Tours region, living between Paris and their property at La Flandrière in the Loir-et-Cher region.
Our painting shows the young bride Léontine Oury in Touraine costume. We recognize the famous Touraine lace bonnet with embroidered flowers, the black dress with collar and the shawl worn over the shoulders. This is a costume that can be found on old postcards showing Touraine costumes. She also has a beautiful hairstyle, with a braid pulled up into a leather strap. A fine portrait in regional costume painted by a friend of a young married friend, a court-appointed lawyer known to all Parisians.
