This oil on canvas depicts a young man in a frock coat, typical of the Empire and Restoration period, between 1810 and 1830.
The portrait is unsigned and dates from the very early 19th century. It is sold in its original state, unrestored and uncleaned, with a few minor traces of dirt and a small tear in the hair.
It's in its natural, untouched state, as collectors are wont to appreciate.
You'll note a lovely Empire palmette frame with gold leaf gilding, missing in places, which goes perfectly with this work.
As for the touch, it's excellent, everything is well brought out, the face, the look, the outfit, the shirt.
This is a quality portrait, probably painted by a professional rather than an amateur.
It is well mounted and typical of the early 19th century.
