    Important oil on canvas depicting Saint Jerome in penance, surrounded by the usual attributes: the tamed lion, the crucifix and the book.
    The old saint is depicted half-naked, with his body showing a sketchy musculature, leaning with his elbow on the vulgate (Latin translation of the Bible), holding his skull in his hands, his intensely reflective gaze turned skyward;
    He is the sinner of the Renaissance humanist,
    The beauty of the work is precisely reflected in the skilful chromatic contrast and luminosity that envelops the scene, with the etheric embodiment of the Saint contrasting with the bright red of his tunic and the vivid landscape to the right of the work.
    This is a late 16th-century Venetian school, closely related to the workshop of Jacopo Negretti, known as Palma the Younger (Venice 1544 1628).
    The work is presented in "good" condition, unframed.
