    A very pretty 18th-century oval miniature on pewter (12 x 9.5 cm) – likely Italian school, but note the distant reference to Bartolomé Esteban Murillo's Virgin and Child dating from 1650 – note the delicacy of the colors, the subtly rosy features of both faces, the young mother's slender fingers protecting the child with a cloth – the Virgin is shown frontally, half-length, her head very finely haloed, as is that of the child, who is no longer a newborn but a chubby and graceful little boy – oval giltwood frame – a few tiny losses of color along the edges
