This large early 17th-century oil painting on oak panels is a fine example of the Flemish school's brilliant polychromy and expressive characters.
The panel is composed of three boards assembled in dovetail fashion and is in good condition. There are occasional gaps and classic cracks where the boards meet.
The Adoration of the Shepherds is an episode recounted in the Gospel according to Luke. It takes place just after the Annunciation to the shepherds and before the arrival of the Magi.
