An interesting oil on canvas from the late 18th/early 19th century depicting the head of Saint John the Baptist after his decapitation, presented on a platter.

The canvas was mounted on a panel in the early 20th century, with some restorations around the edges of the canvas surrounding the saint's head.
The original, antique, blackened wooden tondo frame serves as an offering platter, that is, the platter on which the saint's head was presented to Salome and Herod.

A very interesting composition, more common in the 17th century.

    Dimensions:
34 cm in diameter for the canvas and 43 cm with the frame.
