Still life with pineapple. This is a misnomer. This work is so lively and luminous, it should be called a "living nature"!
A student of Othon Friesz at the Académie de la Grande chaumière (1918-1920), Émile Sabouraud became a member of the Groupe du Pré-Saint-Gervais. He exhibits at the Salon des indépendants, the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon d'automne.
In Algiers, he was a resident at the Villa Abd-el-Tif in 1935 and 1936. On his return to France, he joined the Peintres de la réalité poétique. He received several awards and distinctions: in 1935, the Abd-el-Tif prize, in 1951, the Légion d'honneur, in 1965, he was made Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres and in 1970, he was awarded the Prix Georges Wildenstein by the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
Émile Sabouraud lived through the last century, passing away in 1996 in Lagny-sur-Marne.
The work of this great artist can be seen in many museums, including the Centre Pompidou (2 oil on canvas).
