Karl Ens – Polychrome porcelain budgerigar on a branch

This charming budgerigar, crafted from polychrome porcelain, is a creation of the prestigious German manufacturer Karl Ens, renowned for its remarkably lifelike depictions of animals.
Depicted perched on a lifelike branch, this elegant budgie captivates with the finesse of its modeling and the delicacy of its polychrome finish. Its sky-blue plumage, with subtle shading, contrasts harmoniously with the fine black and white ripples on its head and wings, while its long tail adds balance and lightness to the composition.
Every detail has been rendered with great precision: the lively gaze, the finely chiseled flight feathers, the claws delicately resting on the branch, and the softness of the glazes all attest to the exceptional craftsmanship of the Karl Ens workshops.
Founded in Rudolstadt, Thuringia, in the late 19th century, the Karl Ens manufactory is world-renowned for the quality of its animal porcelain figurines. Its birds are among the manufacturer’s most sought-after pieces, prized for their naturalism, the finesse of their craftsmanship, and the quality of their hand-painting.
This sculpture bears the famous Karl Ens “blue mill” mark on its base, guaranteeing its authenticity and its place within the manufacturer’s historic production.
This figurine is a charming decorative piece that will naturally find its place in a collection of German porcelain, ornithology, or 20th-century decorative arts.
