Central decoration: The plate features a central medallion adorned with a large flowering basket, from which rich branches of blossoming peonies and other stylized floral stems emerge. The basket is finely drawn with geometric motifs imitating basketwork.

Chilong border: a wide band on the rim of the plate is devoted to a continuous, highly dynamic decoration. It features four archaic dragons (Chilong) with sinuous bodies, skilfully moving and intertwining amid foliage and flowers.

Finish: The decoration is executed in a blue cameo underglaze, typical of these prestigious pieces. The silver-plated metal fillet border highlights the lip of the plate.

Although made in China, this piece was produced specifically for the export market of Vietnam's elite and royal court (under the Nguyễn dynasty in the 19th century). This is what is historically known as "Hué Blue" porcelain.
These symbolic Buddhist and Taoist markings on the underside of fine tableware were highly prized by scholars and members of the court of Annam (formerly Vietnam), as they were synonymous with high culture and spiritual protection.

A star-shaped fel on the belly.
