Rare and very large Imari dish: rare for its size, 48 cm in diameter, rare for its graphics.
What sets this piece apart from many others is the lightness of its palette.
It's a far cry from the pronounced cobalt blues and shimmering oranges of certain productions. The blues are pale and the orange tones very discreet, apart from those used as a background for four reserves containing a series of flowers and arabesques.
The center of the dish is very discreet, containing two lotus blossoms, symbolizing purity, separated by garlands of flowers.
Four large reserves contain two flowering baskets and a bird of paradise, all in pastel shades of orange.
This beautiful Imari dish, which takes its name from the Japanese export port, was made in Arita, a small town on the same island.
The lightness of its palette and graphics suggest that it was made in the first half of the 19th century, probably 1830 -1840.
With him, anything goes! It can join its "congeners" on a wall in the middle of a collection, or stand alone in your entrance hall or living room. Another choice solution! It can be part of a magnificent pair with the second, barely different one we're offering on the other hand.
