France, 19th century
The Maison de l’Escalier de Cristal (House of the Crystal Staircase) was a major Parisian firm of the 19th century, famous for its luxury and decorative art objects. It primarily sold and produced furniture, bronzes, glassware, and porcelain, often of exquisite quality. Its name comes from a crystal-adorned staircase in its boutique in the Palais-Royal in Paris, which impressed visitors. Today, it is a major reference for 19th-century French decorative arts.
