Pimprenelle model created in the early 20th century. The Pimprenelle service is best known for its decoration of pink carnations painted by Henri Gillet. This model is a variant with a plain background and a very deep, brilliant midnight blue / "Sèvres blue" enamel. This type of monochrome background is less common than versions with floral decoration. It is a pedestal soup tureen with its display stand, handles and lid grip in the form of stylized foliage. The Pimprenelle service dates from 1903-1904, this tureen from 1970. This intense blue resembles "bleu de roi" or "bleu nouveau", a Sèvres signature color that is very expensive to produce and reserved for large pieces. The technique is complex to produce.
This tureen is therefore rare for its solid blue background and its complete form: a covered tureen + matching display stand in perfect condition, it is the centerpiece of the service and finally the exceptional mirror enamel. In addition to the Sèvres hallmark, the initials of the painter/decorator JP can be found on the plate, as each artist has his or her initials affixed after the decoration has been fired.
