Pyot Gavaudan Thiry (1933)
Originally from Nice, the Thiry family settled in Vallauris in 1943.
After studying at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Nice, Albert Thiry continued his training as a trainee in various pottery workshops, notably at Charles VOLTZ (1923-1997). He married Pyot Gavaudan, who worked at Marcel Giraud (1897-1985) as a decorator and model maker. IN 1961, they created their own workshop and developed a technique of hollow engravings and decoration in chamotte clay for utility pieces and dreamlike characters inspired by mythology and fanciful animals.
