Beautiful bronze work with a golden-brown patina signed Thomas François Cartier (1879 - 1943), a French animal sculptor known for his passion for dogs, which he represented on numerous occasions.
This work depicts a German shepherd standing still, licking its left front paw. Concentrating on his task, ears perked up, the dog wears a wide collar, presumably made of studded leather. His posture is slender and his coat shiny.
The signature is affixed to the right on a dark green bronze base.
The artist conveys his love for man's best friend in this touching and singular work.
