Antoine-Denis CHAUDET was a French sculptor and painter who won the 1st Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1784. He was a member of the Académie de France in Rome, then of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, and finally a professor at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
The original 1817 marble sculpture, completed posthumously, is now on display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.
