This Burmese bronze Buddha from the Mandalay period, inscribed and dated, depicts Shakyamuni in bhumisparsha mudra, the gesture of taking the earth as witness to his awakening. The incised cartouche mentions an identified donor as well as a local religious context, characteristic of the votive practices of Theravāda Buddhism in Burma.
