Sculpture in patinated bronze, better known as "Débardeur du Portd d'Anvers", signed by Cosntantin Meunier
Constantin Meunier (1831-1905) was a Belgian artist renowned for his depictions of the working class.
A student at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts from 1848, he exhibited at the Brussels Salon from 1851.
Meunier became one of the masters of a realistic, social art style that came close to naturalism. He contributed to giving a face to the worker and helped describe the new realities brought about by the industrial boom. His dark, dramatic paintings, and - from the mid-1880s onwards - his angular bronzes, reflect this.
His works can be seen in various museums in Belgium and at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
