The Dvāravatī style developed in the Mon kingdom of Dvāravatī, which flourished in the central region of present-day Thailand from the 6th to the 11th century, its main Dvāravatī cities including U Thong, Nakhon Pathom, Phong Tuk, Si Thep, Khu Bua and Si Mahosot. The style was inspired by Gupta and post-Gupta art from India, particularly in the modeling of bodies and faces.
The style reflects the physical characteristics of the Mon people, with broad faces and noses, full lips and often joined eyebrows.
