    In Greek mythology , Amphitrite is a Nereid , daughter of Nereus and Doris , wife of Poseidon . 
    She is the goddess of the seas . 
    Among the Romans , she was assimilated to the goddess Salacie , goddess of salt water . 
    E.Drouot achieves a subtle balance of volumes and lines , the tight folds of the drapery highlighting the fluid and ample forms of the female body .

    Edouard Drouot (1859-1945)

    Edouard Drouot was a French artist , known for his bronze and marble sculptures , of allegorical and mythological scenes .

    Born April 3 , 1859 in Sommevoire , France , he studied with Mathurin Moreau at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris and exhibited at theSalon of Paris from 1889 .
    Sometimes creating animal and orientalist works , Drouot's sculptures , whether of animals or people , are characterized by a sense of movement and an expressive touch .

    Today , Drouot's work can be found, among others , in the collections of the Courtauld Institute in London and the Indiana University Museum of Art in Bloomington .

    The artist died in 1945 in Paris .
