ARABIAN RIDER RETURNING FROM THE HUNT / POLYCHROME SCULPTURE / AFTER ALFRED BARYE

Arab Horseman Returning from the Hunt – After Alfred Barye – Polychrome Regule – Orientalist Sculpture
A significant and superb Orientalist sculpture in polychrome regule, after Alfred Barye (1839–1882), depicting an Arab horseman returning from the hunt.
This remarkable equestrian composition depicts a richly dressed Arab horseman riding an elegant horse advancing proudly, its front leg raised.
The figure, wearing a turban and a finely crafted traditional costume, carries his weapons and the spoils of his hunt, lending this scene a particularly lively and picturesque quality.
The piece captivates with the richness of its composition, the precision of its details, and the quality of the sculptural work.
The horse, with its noble and elegant bearing, displays beautiful musculature, a carefully sculpted mane, and richly ornamented tack.
The polychromy is particularly decorative, combining beautiful shades of coppery brown and gilded bronze for the rider with an antique green patina for the horse.
This harmony of colors admirably highlights the reliefs and lends the entire piece a striking presence.
The sculpture rests on a substantial rectangular base of veined marble, which perfectly showcases this composition.
This work is part of the great tradition of 19th-century Orientalist sculpture, particularly prized for its depictions of horsemen, horses, and hunting scenes.
A particularly decorative collector’s piece of generous dimensions, ideal for a distinctive interior, a library, an office, or a collection of Orientalist sculptures.
