Large proof in regula with brown patina entitled “La Science” by Auguste Moreau (1834-1917).
Renowned French sculptor, brother of Mathurin and Hippolyte Moreau, this artist is distinguished by his romantic approach to classical works.
Here he creates a moving sculpture where a young woman raises a torch above her head. Dressed in a loose, flowery dress, blown by the wind, she stands proudly, head raised. At his bare feet, we find a compass and a large book. She leans against a terrestrial globe held by foliage. The sculpture is signed – Aug. Moreau – on the terrace and rests on a circular marble base.
