Emile Gallé (1846-1904) was one of the greatest French glassmakers and ceramists of the 20th century. The son of a master glassmaker, he came into contact with the art world at an early age and learned the chemistry of glassmaking in the German town of Meisenthal. This is how he discovered his passion for flora and fauna, which inspired his works. The following year, he inherited his father's glass and ceramics business in Nancy: "Gallé-Reinemer." He then had the opportunity to present his own works at the 1878 and 1889 World's Fairs, where he won numerous awards for his glass, ceramics, and furniture. In 1901, he founded the Ecole de Nancy in his hometown. Gallé is today recognized for his innovative techniques such as cut, engraved, and enameled glass. Two yellow ceramic cats
