An Ataoro couple, each standing in a typical stiff posture, leaning very slightly forward with their angular shoulders and stylized limbs.
The female figure wears a comb at the back of her head and the male a traditional headdress, with a very slightly reddish brown patina.
These figures may represent protective ancestors, spirits, or sometimes warriors. They were placed in front of houses or in uma lulik, ritual or cult houses.
