India, 19th century, superb and large, richly carved wooden chariot panel depicting the goddess Sarasvati, Hindu goddess of knowledge and the arts, depicted standing and holding a book in her right hand. Two small figures stand on either side while the top is decorated with plant scrolls and the base with lotiform motifs. Very good quality of the sculpture in strong relief.
Good condition except for normal wear, small breaks and minor losses; the largest being located at the top right at the level of the plant volutes. Height 51 cm. Width 25 cm.
