Art Nouveau shepherdess gondola – Carved wood & theater red velvet – France, c. 1900

Art Nouveau period shepherdess, made in France at the beginning of the 20th century, in turned wood and stained golden brown with an old patina.

The backrest presents a silhouette of a gendarme hat, with a crest sculpted with scrolls, shells and floral motifs characteristic of the style. The armrest uprights are decorated with carved grooves and capitals; the belt is enriched with garlands and finely chiseled neoclassical ornaments. The entire upholstery is made of theater red velvet with fine stripes, attached with black upholstery nails all around the seat, armrests and backrest. The velvet shows visible wear: traces and slight discoloration in places, testifying to the age of the piece. Entirely original wood with natural patina, with no recent intervention noted. Dimensions: H. 100 cm – L. 50 cm – Estimated weight: 30 kg. Price: 1,800 EUR.
