Bishop's throne – Renaissance / Louis XIII style – Carved wood – 19th century

Renaissance / Louis XIII style ceremonial armchair, dating from the beginning of the 19th century, entirely carved in dark-colored solid wood.

The openwork backrest features a Christian cross surmounting a decoration of scallop shells, scrolls and acanthus leaves carved in high relief. The front feet are treated like lion paws with claws. The monumental volute armrests, decorated with sculpted foliage, rest on a belt decorated with a shell cartouche. The liturgical purpose of this seat is confirmed by the presence of the cross and the scallop shell, characteristic symbols of ecclesiastical furniture. The seat and armrests are upholstered in red and gray cut velvet with baroque floral patterns, attached with a row of gold nails. Restored by the seller's workshops, the whole is in perfect condition. Total height: 90 cm – Seat height: 57 cm – Weight: 15 kg.
