Pouf / footrest / ottoman / occasional stool. Its dimensions also allow it to be used as an occasional table. The pouf is covered in a fabric patterned with Bargello flame stitches: this is a type of needlework consisting of straight flat stitches arranged in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. The name is said to derive from a series of chairs found in the Bargello palace in Florence, Italy, which feature a "flame stitch" pattern. It is also known as Florentine. This motif is timeless and has been found since the Renaissance. The Louis XIII-style baluster-turned wood base is in excellent condition and very stable. The velvet fabric is of very good quality. Upholsterer's nails on the edges and corners. France - circa 1850- Fin XIXeme siecle.
