A chair from the 1780s with a flat, carved backrest decorated with a beautiful lyre; the horseshoe-shaped seat is supported by fluted legs.
The carving, as well as the intricate detail of the connecting rosettes, reminds me of the famous cabinetmaker Georges Jacob (1739–1814); our example is unmarked.
The fabric and upholstery need to be redone; there is a slight amount of play in the back.
A similar model featuring a lyre can be seen at the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte.
    Seat height: 45 cm
