Discovered in the heart of the Saint-Ouen Flea Market, this exceptional set of six bentwood chairs embodies the boldness and technical mastery of the renowned Viennese manufacturer Jacob & Josef Kohn. True icons of industrial design from the turn of the 20th century, several pieces still retain their original paper labels beneath the seat—a definitive mark of authenticity and provenance for the most discerning collectors. The allure of this ensemble lies in its rich, fantastical ornamentation, quintessential of the Jugendstil movement: the heat-pressed plywood backrest reveals a bearded mascaron with organic features, a mythological figure entwined in leafy scrolls that seem to emerge directly from the wood. This graphic strength extends to the seat, also delicately embossed with a complex ornamental motif, creating a visual harmony of great refinement.
Preserved in a beautiful "home" condition, these chairs feature a perfectly sound and stable structure. Time has bestowed upon the beechwood a deep, warm honey patina, enhanced by light traces of wear that underscore their century-old authenticity without ever detracting from the magnificence of their design. Far more than mere luxury bistro seating, these J. & J. Kohn creations are true functional sculptures. Their airy silhouette and striking mascaron decor will elegantly punctuate a contemporary dining table or perfectly complement an Art Nouveau interior. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a consistent and homogeneous set of six pieces, ready to grace a new setting for a second life.
